NEED FOR SPEED MOST WANTED (ANDROID) REVIEW: IT MEANS WELL

If you had high hopes that this version of Most Wanted would be like the console (or even the Vita) version of the game, yeah, dash those hopes right now. While this may be an above average presentation for a smartphone game, it’s pretty basic and almost dull. The game lacks the open world environment like the other editions, so there are no drawn out chases, billboards to smash or cars to find and jump into. Everything must be unlocked and bought, and it’s hard to get to the good stuff when the game is so stingy on the cash awards for the events that are completed.

The course design is very repetitious, and for some reason every event takes place on the freeway. Maybe that decision was made to allow for wider roads to accommodate the tilt controls, but that didn’t seem like much of a problem for the Asphalt games. That leads to a great point to make about this game, it’s not nearly as fun as Asphalt 7. The races in NFSMW are dull, and whatever presence the police have in the game really don’t serve much of a point other than to be a nuisance.

Even if the game does look pretty good, it’s not exactly smooth. Using a HTC EVO 3D, I would think that the game could run better than it did on my phone. The game sort of chugs a bit when there’s too much traffic on screen. Also, the environments are drab, and don’t really represent the same look the console version had. The controls also seem a bit sluggish as well. The cars feel too heavy in turns, and while I didn’t find myself riding the walls that often, it’s nowhere near as tight as some other racing games I’ve played on the Android platform.

If you ever come across this game for $0.99 in the Google Play store, it may be worth that just to see what the game is like. But for anything higher than that, I would say that your money is best spent somewhere else. I know we shouldn’t expect the best when it comes to smartphone games, but at least make it entertaining.

RATING: C
It's not bad, it's just a bit boring. At least it's cheaper than the Vita version.
